Spirit of the Daedra
How you should know us.
DEATH, DEFEAT AND FEAR
We do not die. We do not fear death.
Destroy the Body, and the Animus is cast into the Darkness. But the Animus returns.
But we are not all brave.
We feel pain, and fear it. We feel shame, and fear it. We feel loss, and fear it. We hate the Darkness, and fear it.
The Scamps have small thoughts, and cannot fear greatly.
The Vermai have no thoughts, and cannot fear.
The Dremora have deep thoughts, and must master fear to overcome it.
THE CLAN BOND
We are not born, we have not fathers and mothers, yet we have kin and clans.
The clan-form is strong. It shapes body and thought.
In the clan-form is strength and purpose.
THE OATH BOND
We serve by choice. We serve the strong, so that their strength might shield us.
Clans serve by long practice, but practice may change.
Dremora have long served Dagon, but not always so.
Practice is secure when the oath-bonds are secure, and trust is shared.
When oath-bonds are weak, there is pain, and shame, and loss, and Darkness, and great fear.
HOW WE THINK ABOUT MAN
Perhaps you find Scamps comic, and Vermai brutish.
How then do you imagine we view you humans?
You are the Prey, we are the Huntsmen.
The Scamps are the Hounds, the Vermai the Beaters.
Your flesh is sweet, and the chase is diverting.
As you may sometimes praise the fox or hare, admiring its cunning and speed, and lamenting as the hounds tear its flesh, so do we sometimes admire our prey, and secretly applaud when it cheats our snares or eludes pursuit.
But, like all worldly thing, you will in time wear, and be used up. You age, grow ugly, weak and foolish. You are always lost, late or soon.
Sometimes, the prey turns upon us and bites. It is a small thing. when wounded or weary, we fly away to restore. Sometimes a precious thing is lost, but that risk makes the chase all the sweeter.
MAN'S MYSTERY
Man is mortal, and doomed to death and failure and loss.
This lies beyond our comprehension - why do you not despair?
---------------
A comprehensive article on Daedra from The Imperial Library. [Scroll down for information specifically relivant to Milliways patrons.]
For those who are satisfied with a great deal less minutae, in brief:
There is the world of Nirn, which may be considered the mortal world in all its politics and factions (the major continent being Tamriel), and then there is the dimension of Oblivion, seperated into realms just as the mortal world is seperate in regions. Each realm of Oblivion is ruled by a Daedric Prince. Sheogorath's realm is Madness.
The Daedra (s. Daedroth) are sometimes mistakenly confused with demons. This is an error: the Daedra are neither inherently evil, nor inherently good. In the world of Nirn, precisely which Daedra are considered good or evil depends on culture, sub-culture, and background.
However, this does not make them benign objects of mortal morality. They are active participants in the mortal realm (some more than others), and like the gods of Greece, tend to give the impression of playing some kind of incomprehensible, universal game of chess against each other with very little concern that a city might burn to the ground here and there.
In terms of good and evil, Sheogorath may be one of the most difficult to define. His motives are unknowable, his appearance to mortal eyes is not frightening -- it is even seductive (if a little unusual by the standards of Tamriel -- his statues show a man in clothing vaguely reminiscent of Victorian styles, with a waistcoat and cane and what may be a pocketwatch); yet his personality ranges from a jester to a homicidal maniac. He may ask you to slay a fell beast with a fork, or he may hurl a moon at a city. He savors the act of driving mortals insane or making them perform actions obviously insane. Most amusing of all is his favored weapon for mortals, the staff Wabbajack which can transform any living being into something wildly different. According to Sheogorath himself, he considers madness to be a form of mercy for those who would otherwise not function in the world. "A bitter mercy but a mercy nonetheless" as he put it right before giving the player the Spear of Bitter Mercy (which was used in The Elder Scrolls: Battlespire to kill Mehrunes Dagon) - better to be seen as mad than hopelessly despondent.
Sheogorath's Daedric servants are the Golden Saints.

When Sheogorath rebelled against the Tribunal, he tricked the moon Baar Dau into forsaking its appointed path through Oblivion. The Mad Star inspired the moon to hurl itself upon Vivec's new city, which Sheogorath claimed was built in mockery of the heavens. When Vivec learned of Sheogorath's scheme, he froze the rogue moon in the sky with a single gesture and the grace of his countenance. Overwhelmed by the courage and daring of Vivec, the moon Baar Dau swore itself to eternal service of the Tribunal and all its works. Thus the moon now stands guard over the palace, and serves as a citadel for the Temple's Ordinators.
For Milliways:
Sheogorath is a god-entity, and essentially indestructable, but there are multitudes of ways he can be controlled, counteracted, and otherwise leashed and collared. Exactly how any given character deals with him is a matter specific to the character in question; therefor this character will not be played without OOC communication. Sheogorath is a highly magical being; any powerful fairy, demon, god, or relatively powerful magician would have a fair chance of beating him in a battle of power. Anyone with a brain has a good chance to deal with him even with no magic capabilities whatsoever, for he prefers to duel and deal with wit, not brute strength.
One important thing to know is this: Sheogorath cannot actually make anyone insane. He can only encourage what insanity is already there, usually by creating environmental and situational chaos. There is no hocus-pocus-now-you're-crazy. He may say things that imply otherwise, but keep in mind two things: First, he lies as easily as most people breathe, and may believe his lies to be true; Second, what holds true in his world does not necessarily hold true in anybody else's. In other words: The level to which ANYTHING Sheogorath says or does effects your character is entirely up to you.
In the end, it comes down to this: I, as the mun, am not playing this character for power struggles or powergaming. If you need someone to mess with your character for plot or character development, I'm happy to oblige. Otherwise, I'm happy with Sheo losing any challenge he makes with a character during the course of casual threading. He's here for crack, maybe a little angst (because I enjoy that sort of thing), but he is not evil, and not meant to be a destructive force. I, the mun, am playing this character because I love his style, I love his personality, and I love the canon lore, and I love the guys who made this character and his canon, several of whom I have the honor of knowing through the official forums. If this character does anything, ANYTHING that pisses you off or screws something up, I am happy with it being deleted, retconned, or in any other way undone. PERIOD. No qualms, no hard feelings. If it's not fun, it shouldn't happen. If it doesn't work for you and your character, it should unhappen. Simple as that.
